Meeting Wednesday!

and other information!

This week we will be meeting Wed, Nov 6th, 6-7:30 in Bartlett 1017!

During this meeting we will have time to practice any pieces, workshop, and debrief on what we thought went well during spooky scary slam! We will also be talking about assigning cabinet positions.

If you won a gift card during the slam and still have not responded to the email about getting that to you, please do or email [email protected] directly to set that up! These prizes belong to you, you earned them!

Also, we want to use those gift cards to show these local businesses the support they gave us! That’s one of the reasons for the sponsorship and collaboration. They donate the prizes and students who hear of them or win the cards to their locations go out and show them love.

In order to keep this going please visit any of the following places if you have the time/means. Don’t be afraid to tell them how you heard about them, how you won the gift card, and most of all thank them!

  • Big Acai, 100 E 2nd St Suite 106, Cedar Falls, IA 50613. (I seriously recommend the Mango Tango Smoothie - Vincent)

  • Big Foot Betty’’s, 419 Main St, Cedar Falls, IA 50613. (Next to Sarah’s Espresso!)

  • Sub City, On the hill! 2224 College St. Cedar Falls, IA.

  • Raygun, 205 Main St. CF, IA 50613.

If wanting to arrange a carpool to visit these locations just reach out to either [email protected] or [email protected]! This is the graphic we are hoping to send/deliver to each of these sponsors!

Mic Check Poetry Fest 2024

November 8-9

Two powerful poets perform live at The Hancher on Friday night, Nov 8th, then lead workshops on Saturday afternoon, Nov 9th. Saturday night, top Iowa poets perform live with The Blake Shaw Quartet.

Mic Check Poetry Fest is a two-day celebration of spoken word and its power to bear witness, create community, and inspire change. The festival is packed with a variety of events, from performances by Iowa spoken word poets to a showcase highlighting nationally-acclaimed artist Rudy Francisco, making it unlike any other festival in Iowa. In the true spirit of spoken word, Mic Check Poetry Fest gives space for attendees to engage and create through writing workshops and a poetry slam and open mic.

If wanting to attend please RSVP ASAP!!! and make sure you wont schedule something else when already committed to going.

We are currently seeing if the volunteer spots for the fest are still open so we can attend for FREE. You would need to be available from 3:30pm to around 12:30am on Friday (this calculates drive time to Iowa city) and from 8am-12:30am on Saturday. You DO NOT need to attend both days. When signing up you will only put the days you are available. If carpooling with Vincent you will need to be available from that start time to end time as that is when he will be driving to, staying in, and driving back from Iowa City.

This opportunity is seriously one of the best you can take advantage of. This festival and these poets, the community of writers, and the workshops and slam will be 10000% worth every minute. Please look into attending.

See you Wednesday and please make sure to go out and VOTE!!!!!
