Hello All!
We hope your first week of classes went smoothly and that this Monday has been great! We will be meeting for the first time this Friday, Jan 31st, 5-6:30pm!
We will be going over the constitution, doing introductions, talking about cabinet positions, and going over the list of events and opportunities this semester!
Here are the reminders of our upcoming events! A few have been added since last week! Please make sure to reach out to us if interested in any of these events or attending, as well as transportation concerns or questions! Please allow 1-2 days to reply.
January 29th, 11-1pm: The Student Org Fair! Come see our table and learn more about the organization, our plans this semester, and play a fun game!
January 31st, T5-6:30pm: Our first meeting of the semester! These have been between 5pm-7:30pm in the past and run about an hour and a half or less. We will go over the constitution and then hop into writing and practicing for our next two events!
February 11th, 7pm: The IPA Qualifier! This will be in the interpreter’s theatre in Lang hall. Please review all links and information about this competition. This is an amazing opportunity and can connect you with poets all over the nation!
The 2025 IPA Poetry Slam Season is upon us! The Iowa Poetry Association is hosting a series of four qualifying poetry slams across the state in search of our 2025 IPA Poetry Slam Champion. The top three poets from each qualifier will automatically advance to the IPA Poetry Slam Finals to be held on April 5, 2025 as part of @poetryamp_iowa! The winner of the IPA Poetry Slam Finals will be named the 2025 Iowa Champion and earn an IPA-sponsored spot in the 2025 BlackBerry Peach National Poetry Slam. This year’s national slam will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 23-26, 2025.
Register to compete ahead of the qualifier. Don’t want to compete? No worries! Come on out to cheer on the poets, enjoy poetry, and/or volunteer to judge! All are welcome
The Iowa Poetry Association (IPA) is proud to welcome in the 2025 IPA Poetry Slam season! We will hold a series of four qualifying poetry slams across Iowa in early 2025. The top three (3) poets from each qualifying slam will move on to our final stage on April 5, 2025, during Poetry Palooza in Des Moines. The winner of our final stage will be crowned the 2025 IPA Poetry Slam Champion and move on to represent Iowa at the 2025 BlackBerry Peach National Poetry Slam in Albuquerque, New Mexico in July 2025. February 16th, 1-4pm: Rachel Morgan, The Northern American Review, and the Cedar Valley Youth Poet Laureate program are looking to collab with members of UNI SLAM! We are being given the opportunity to help coach and mentor local youths who are interested in the program
From Rachel: “We'd love y'all to perform, work with students on writing/performing, sharing tips and tricks. UNI Slam is such a vibrant part of campus, and we'd love for you to share your talents.”

February 25th, 3pm. Tama Auditorium, Hawkeye Community College: Hawkeye will be having their Annual Poetry Slam. If you’d like to watch a slam in action and get another example of how they’re scored, please attend. Our President Vincent will be in attendance as a judge!!
March 7th, 7-9pm: Poetry Show in collaboration with Nicole Sallis, Chris Hale and the Cedar Falls Community Theatre! The event will take place at the Theatre and will be an amazing way to showcase your work! Poets will each have 5-6 minutes to share and will receive a $50 stipend per poet. We will finalize a roster ASAP so please reach out if interested! We will be reminding all students leading up to this event.
